Facade Face-Lift

This 20th Century rambler had a concrete front porch that was crumbling into oblivion and its slender columns needed to be updated. The client wanted a curb appeal face-lift for their home without breaking the bank. The solution was to use Cordova flagstone that complimented the home’s brick to cover the newly repaired concrete porch and front walk. 4×6 wood columns doubled and clad with steel fittings replaced the old rusting supports and added modern flare. This affordable solution has drawn many compliments from our clients’ neighbors and visitors.

Modern Polished Concrete Tops

The modern spec home occupied by our client called for a fresh upgrade. We replaced the boring laminate countertops with these two and a half inch polished concrete counters. A black granite slab was inlaid into the island counter for pastry and candy preparation. The main counter was poured with a diagonal control-joint to add interest and aid in installation. Perpendicular to that, another line inlaid with anodized aluminum slices across the built-in drainboard and extends through to the end of the counter-top. The drainboard itself is inlaid with stainless steel spacing rods and drains to the deep cultured stone sink. Blue quartzite stone was sprinkled throughout the counters and was revealed as they were polished. These custom counters create a stunning impression in this modern home.

Utility Screen

An unsightly air conditioning unit detracted from the stunning views to the mountains enjoyed from this penthouse condo’s balcony. Kingbird was called in to remedy the situation with a custom utility screen. The powder coated steel frame is built to last. Redwood louvers allow for air flow while the operating gate makes the utilities fully accessible. It not only shields the view of the mechanical units, but is an attractive addition to this outdoor living space that blends with the existing architectural details.

Landscape Re-Design

A blanket of flowers and shrubs greets the passerby of this charming home. The mundane expanse of high-maintenance lawn was cut back to a manageable size and intermingled with lush beds filled with beautiful plants that thrive in Salt Lake’s dry climate. The cracked and decaying walk was replaced with boldly designed steps that enrich the entry experience. A new wood deck and pergola add a pleasantly livable space near the front door. The satisfied clients have received many compliments from neighbors and friends. What’s more, they now enjoy a stunning, comfortable and low-maintenance yard that invites visitors to explore and enjoy.

Entry Fountain

A local esthetics school recently commissioned a fountain to complement their entry. Both students and patrons are now greeted by the soothing sounds of falling water. A palette of concrete and steel compliment the modern style of the company’s branding. Three small basins pour into the main pool from varying heights and volumes. The water cascades in sheets from the steel weirs creating a visually stunning play of light and water.

North Hills Residence Landscape

The North Hills lot enjoys powerful views of the Salt Lake Valley. Careful placement of coniferous and deciduous trees overcomes the challenge of incorporating those views without sacrificing privacy and shading from the summer sun. The pool area is a versatile space designed for entertaining and relaxing. Its smooth connection to the family/game room allows for effortless flow and flexibility. The semi-formal lawns provide functionality without overtaking the landscape with high maintenance, thirsty areas. Care was taken to blend highly planned areas with the more naturalized style of the existing hillside. The result is a practical design that saves water, time, and money while expressing the natural beauty of a native plant palate.

North Hills Residence

The North Hills Residence was designed for a beautiful lot overlooking the Salt Lake Valley. Spectacular views of the mountains and valley guided the design process while other environmental factors like sun angles were also evaluated. The result is a home design with many comfortable, livable spaces both inside the home and throughout the landscape; all optimized for year-round usability.

With four bedrooms and three bathrooms, there is plenty of room for family and guests. The floor plan provides an excellent range of private, semi-private, and public spaces. Thought was taken to ensure that each area in the home was versatile and flexible. For example, one bedroom and the adjoining hall and bathroom can easily be sectioned off to create a private guest suite. The great room with the connected kitchen is an exceptional space for formal entertaining, while the family/game room downstairs with its wet bar and befitting connection to the pool area becomes an excellent space for more relaxed gatherings.

Demolition Watercolor Painting

The track-hoe that inspired this painting was just completing the demolition of a graffiti covered condemned building that was a work of art in and of itself. It was only fitting then that the demolisher received it’s own piece of art.
